DURABIT T for Civil Engineering
PLASTIC SEALING MEMBRANES
DURABIT T – safe + impervious
Economical
DURABIT T only requires some simple pre- installation work on the sub-soil. The membrane can then be efficiently and quickly placed, and reliably seamed by hot-wedge welding or hot air welding.
Environmentally friendly
DURABTI T plastic dealing membranes are immune to ageing. This quality building material is environmentally sound in manufacture and use. It is plasticizer and chlorine free and it is completely harmless to health, water, earth and plants.
Oriented to the future
DURABIT T is manufactured using a sophisticated and high quality process. It complies with, or exceeds, the relevant test standards.
It can be anticipated that DURABIT T will provide decades of service, when used in the proposed applications.
DURABIT T – modified HDPE sealing membranes of Ethylene Copolymer (ECB) are extremely immune to ageing as well as being root resistant. Additionally, they are manufactured under very strict quality control.
Applications
The sealing of basins, dams, ponds, tunnels, foundations, landfills, landfill leachate collection basins and traffic structures. These are the applications which illustrate, qualities which DURABIT T sealing membranes are renowned to have.
Main advantages
- very sturdy and robust so it can hardly be damaged when the membranes are installed
- high elongation, even under biaxial stresses
- resistant to ageing and rotting
- resistant to most chemical substances including dilute acids and alkalis
- a safe bonding technique using hot-air/hot-wedge welding
- resistant against micro-organisms
- high tear resistance
- root resistant
- plasticizer free
- biologically neutral
- UV resistant
DURABIT – CIVIL ENGINEERING INSTALLATION SYSTEMS
Earth works and Hydraulic works
DURABIT T – sealing membranes, with 2 mm thickness and a width of 2 m, are especially suited for this field of application. Due to their high flexibility, they can be installed efficiently, economically, and quickly.
Tunnel and pressure gallery construction
DURABIT T – sealing membranes have proved themselves especially valuable in these applications, due to their high elongation. Cracks in rock, or in shotcrete linings can be properly sealed if DURABIT T is installed correctly. The membrane’s excellent strain characteristics permit it to bridge across cracks safely.
DURABIT T sealing membranes can also be used in open cut underground construction. For example, they are used in underground railway construction in many countries across the world.
Road and highway underpasses
With these structures, which partly have to be built below the groundwater level, it is vital to include the complete waterproofing plan in the design stage.
A reliable solution can be realised with DURABIT T – sealing membranes and anchor and/or DURAFLEX water stops.
Foundation concrete protection
Foundation and /or concrete structures, which are built below the ground water level, require the use of sealing membranes as a permanent protection. This is equally true whether there is water pressure present, or not. DURABIT T sealing membranes are permanently resistant to acids in the soil, as well as to all substances occurring in the ground water. They retain their protective properties even when under stress. For example: structural movements, shrinkage, temperature fluctuations, settling of the soil, etc.
Air pressure testing
Welded seams can be tested by applying pressure to the inside channel of the seam, as a means of non-destructive testing.
Welding techniques
During installation, the sealing membranes have to be overlapped and then seam welded. This is achieved by using welding equipment such as automatic welding machines, which have proved to be efficient and have been tested for suitability. This equipment can be a hot-wedge welding machine, or a hot air welding machine.
When welding is to be undertaken it is essential to determine the principal factors which can affect the work, for example, welding temperature, welding pressure and welding speed.
These pre-determined parameters must then be exactly followed. Overlapped membranes can be seam welded in single or double joints and can be checked according to the chosen test method.
