DURABIT / COPOLEN for Building Construction

After over 30 years of experience with the production of waterproofing membranes from ECB (Ethylene Copolymer Bitumen) and FPO (Flexible Polyolefins) by the most modern production procedures, DURABIT –BAUPLAST sealing membranes are known to be a guarantee for secure waterproofing, especially in building construction.

Our roofing membranes are manufactured from 2 homogenous material layers and a reinforcing middle layer (glass-fleece, glass-grid, etc.).
These products have the addition “SM” which marks them as being suitable for building construction.
DURABIT / COPOLEN waterproofing membranes exceed many requirements needed for application.

PLASTIC ROOFING AND SEALING MEMBRANES

DURABITROOFING SYSTEMS

Economical

DURABIT / COPOLEN can be installed quickly and economically, on all types of underlying structures.
DURABIT / COPOLEN provides function for many decades and an extremely beneficial cost/ performance relationship.

Environmentally friendly

DURABIT / COPOLEN – roofing membranes are remarkably immune to ageing and environmental influences, as well as being root – resistant. These quality building materials are environmentally sound in manufacture and use. They are plasticizer and chlorine free and so are completely harmless to health, water, earth and plants.

  • very sturdy and robust so it can hardly be damaged when the membranes are installed
  • high elongation
  • age – resistant
  • a safe bonding technique using hot-air/hot-wedge welding
  • root resistant
  • UV – resistant
  • Chlorine free
  • Plasticizer free
  • resistant against micro organisms
  • biologically neutral
  • Bitumen resistant

Oriented to the future

DURABIT / COPOLEN is manufactured using a sophisticated and high quality process. It complies with, or exceeds, all of the relevant testing standards. It can be anticipated to provide decades of service when used in the proposed applications.

Flexibility and Elongation

With an elongation inn excess of 550 % DURABIT / COPOLEN waterproofing membranes can absorb movement and also bridge across structural joints. Because of the remarkable flexibility DURABIT can also be applied to light-weight roofing constructions.

High tensile strength

Even under bending stresses. Having a thickness of 2 mm DURABIT / CPOLOLEN offers protection from whatever structural loads are encountered. This robustness is especially necessary if the roofing material is fixed mechanically.

Thermal resistance

DURABIT / COPOLEN has a high thermal softening point. This makes it very suitable for use in hot climates. On the other hand it performs equally well at temperatures as low as -30°C.
Fire resistance: according to DIN 4102.

Bitumen resistence

The material can be installed directly onto a bituminous base, or onto any other base, without the need of a separation layer. DURABIT offers a reliable method for the renovation of bitumen roofs.

Root resistant

DURABIT / COPOLEN is suitable for use on roofs with a grassed topsoil cover and on underground garages. It simultaneously fulfils the requirements of both roof sealing and roof penetration protection. FLL – test report.

Off cuts /waste

Virtually none, as all remnants can be used or recycled.

In 1990 DURABIT won the State of Austria Award for Quality and Environmental Protection, for its fully perfected manufacture of roofing and sealing membranes.

DURABIT SM – Installation Techniques

Loosely laid – secured with a cover layer

In this application DURABIT SM roofing membranes are loosely laid, either by rolling out or as prefabricated units. This can be done directly onto a flat roof deck, or onto an insulation material which has specific resistance to compressive stress. Once installed the entire area of membrane has to be secured against up-lift. This can be achieved with a layer of rounded gravel, soil or concrete slabs.

Loosely laid – mechanical fixation

When DURABIT SM roofing membranes are mechanically fixed, the fixation has to ensure that the waterproofing membranes are permanently and securely attached to the roof. The fixing elements are required to possess properties that enable them to secure the membranes permanently, without causing damage.

Bonding with hot bitumen

DURABIT SMB – roofing membranes include a layer of glass-fleece, sandwiched between two layers of DURABIT SM. The underside of the membrane is coated with a further layer of synthetic felt. This composite material can be fully bonded with hot bitumen, completely or partially to the surface of the roof area.

DURABIT SM in vegetated roofs

Flat or shallow pitched roofs of garages or industrial buildings are also suitable for vegetating. DURABIT SM is resistant to roots, micro-organisms and acid soil.

Seam welding

Trouble free hot-air welding, using automatic and hand welding equipment, results in homogeneously welded seams, without the need for any special bonding agents. As the nonwoven fibre glass mat is an integral layer within the membrane, no additional work is required when bonding transverse joints or when off-cuts need to be used up. DURABIT SM, a material for modern roof structures, with a safe and reliable bonding technology.
Extensive vegetating

In this application only low maintenance vegetation is being used as it only requires a thin sub-stratum. The benefit is a reduction in weight and so reduced construction and maintenance costs. Extensively vegetated roofs are mainly for ecological or aesthetic purposes and they are not intended for continual use.

Intensive vegetating

It is important to note that when a roof is intensively vegetated there is an additional static load as well as increased maintenance. However, the more intensively a roof is vegetated, the wider the range of different uses to which it may be put, are.
