COPOLEN SM – ROOFING SYSTEM
Economical
COPOLEN SM can be installed quickly and economically, on all types of underlying structures.
COPOLEN SM is very functional and it provides an extremely beneficial cost/performance relationship.
Environmentally friendly
COPOLEN SM – plastic roofing membranes are extremely immune to ageing as well as being rot resistant. This quality building material is environmentally sound in manufacture and use. It is plasticizer and chlorine free and it is completely harmless to health, water, earth and plants.
CHLORINE FREE
PLASTICIZER FREE
UV RESISTANT
RECYCLABLE
Oriented to the future
COPOLEN SM is manufactured using a sophisticated and high quality process. It complies with, or exceeds, the relevant test standards. It can be anticipated that it will provide decades of service, when used in the proposed applications.
COPOLEN SM – roofing membranes are manufactured from a flexible polyolefin compound and they contain a fibre glass middle layer. They are noted for their excellent dimensional stability and high mechanical perforation resistance.
Applications
Especially for flat, and shallow pitched roofs where a bright surface is required for architectural reasons, or where high a high level of radiation could lead to significant heat exchange. Installation, in these cases, is mainly done by mechanical fixing. (In some instances even by cold gluing.) The roofing membrane is therefore the top layer or, alternatively, the surface of the structure.
COPOLEN SM is also suitable for all other installation methods, for example: – loose laid – secured with a cover layer – inverted roofs, etc.
Main Advantages
- robustness relative to installation stresses – high elongation, even under biaxial stresses – resistant to ageing and rotting – resistant to most chemical substances including dilute acids and alkalis – safe and rational seam welding techniques – hot air or hot wedge with a single seam, or alternatively, a double seam – rodent and micro-organism resistant – high tear resistance – root resistant – plasticizer free – biologically neutral – UV stable
COPOLEN SM – INSTALLATION SYSTEMS
Loose laid – secured by mechanically fixing
The mechanical fixing of COPOLEN SM roofing membranes must be done in such a way so as to ensure that they are securely and permanently attached to the roof. The fixing elements must have surface properties that enable them to secure the roofing membranes permanently, without causing damage.

In exposed windy locations, for example, coastal regions, where internal pressure can occur (in buildings) and for buildings higher than 20 m, individual evaluations are required, in accordance with DIN 1055, Part 4 and this requirement must be observed by planners and builders.

The thermal insulation material, used where the membranes are mechanically fixed, must have a resistance to compressive stress >= 65kN/m_, under a compressive strain not greater than 10 % Futher, the attachment element must not penetrate more than 5 mm into the insulation material. The incorporation of a kerb to support the light dome.
The COPOLEN SM roofing membranes are raised up to the edge of the gutter, where water collects and drips, and are mechanically attached with a metal strip.
Seam welding
Trouble free hot-air welding using automatic and hand welding equipment results in homogeneously welded seams, without the need for any special bonding agents. As the nonwoven fibre glass mat is an integral layer within the membrane no additional work is required when transverse joints are to be welded, or when off-cuts need to be used up.
