DURABIT SM – ROOFING SYSTEMS

Economical

DURABIT SM can be installed quickly and economically, on all types of underlying structures.
DURABIT SM is very functional and it provides and extremely beneficial cost/ performance relationship.

Environmentally friendly

DURABIT SM – plastic roofing membranes are extremely immune to ageing as well as being rot resistant. This quality building material is environmentally sound in manufacture and use. It is plasticizer and chlorine free and it is completely harmless to health, water, earth and plants.

CHLORINE FREE
PLASTICIZER FREE
UV RESISTANT
RECYCLABLE

Oriented to the future

DURABIT SM is manufactured using a sophisticated and high quality process. It complies with, or exceeds, the relevant test standards. It can be anticipated that it will provide decades of service, when used in the proposed applications.

Elongation

In excess of 400%. It can absorb movement and also bridge across structural joints.

High tensile strength

Even under bending stresses. Having a thickness of 2 mm DURABIT SM protection, whatever structural loads are encountered. this robustness is especially necessary in the case of roofs where the roofing material must be mechanically fixed.

Thermal resistance

DURABIT SM has a high thermal softening point. This makes it very suitable for use in hot climates. On the other hand it performs equally well at temperatures as low as -30°C.
Fire resistance: according to DIN 4102.

Bitumen resistence

The material can be installed directly onto a bituminous base, or onto any other base, without the need for a separation layer.
A reliable method for the renovation of bitumen roofs.

Root resistant

DURABIT SM is absolutely suitable for use on roofs with a grassed topsoil cover and on underground garages. It simultaneously fulfils the requirements of both roof sealing and roof penetration protection. FLL – test report.

Off cuts /waste

There are vitually none, as all remnants can be used up easily.

DURABIT SM – INSTALLATION TECHNIQUES

Loose laid – secured with a cover layer

In this application the DURABIT SM roofing membrane is loose laid, either by rolling out or as prefabricated units. This can be done directly onto a flat roof deck, or onto an insulation material which has specific resistance to compressive stress. Once installed the entire area of membrane must be secured, to the required standards, against the forces of wind up-lift. This can be achieved with a layer of rounded gravel or with concrete slabs.

Loose laid – secured by mechanically fixing

The mechanical fixing of DURABIT SM roofing membranes must be done in such away so as to ensure that they are securely and permanently attached to the roof. The fixing elements must have surface properties that enable them to secure the roofing membranes permanently, without causing damage.

Bonding with hot bitumen

DURABIT SMB – roofing membranes include a synthetic felt, sandwiched between two layers of DURABIT SM. The underside of the membrane is coated with a further layer of synthetic felt. This composite material can be fully bonded with hot bitumen to all, or any part, of the roof surface area.

DURABIT SM in vegetated roofs

Flat, or shallow pitched roofs of garages and industrial buildings are also suitable for vegetating. DURABIT SM is resistant to roots, micro-organisms and acid soil.

Seam welding

Trouble free hot-air welding using automatic and hand welding equipment results in homogeneously welded seams, without the need for any special bonding agents. As the nonwoven fibre glass mat is an integral layer within the membrane no additional work is required when transverse joints are to be welded, or when off-cuts need to be used up. DURABIT SM, a material for modern roof structures, with a safe and reliable jointing technology.

Extensive vegetating

In this instance low maintenance vegetation can be used which only requires a thin sub-stratum. The benefit is a reduction in weight, and so reduced construction and maintenance costs. Extensively vegetated roofs are mainly for ecological, or aesthetic purposes and they are not intended for use, e.g., for walking on.

Intensive vegetating

It is important to note that in an intensively vegetated roof there is additional static loading and care and maintenance. However, the more intensively a roof is vegetated, the wider the range of different uses to which it may be put.
